A Kingfisher in progress.

I went to Cromford dam some weeks ago to sketch some little grebes. I started to sketch, but, my attention was quickly diverted. A kingfisher flashed across the dam and settled relatively close to me.

With all of the traffic going along the side of the dam, people walking around I was surprised it stayed around so long, but, I got some decent working sketches. It is the most colourful bird in Britain.

When I got home I found myself moulding a kingfisher in clay and gradually felt it jumping to the top of the queue. It is almost ready to be sent to the foundry to be cast.

It looks nothing in the clay state, but, I am hoping I can do the bird justice when it has been cast in bronze and patinated.
