Recently a neighbour told me a coal tit had flown in to the conservatory window.
It was a young bird maybe two to three months old which I suspect had been raised locally. I had seen two coal tits making regular visits to my bird feeder collecting tiny seeds.
I don’t recall ever having one in my hand before, but, I was amazed at how small and beautiful it was. It was smaller than my thumb.
On further reflection it seems surprising that such a small creature can manage to survive with all the dangers that surround it and in all weathers. I sketched and measured the tiny details of the little bird. I pondered for quite some time on what an amazing miracle such things are. I will create a painting of it in memory of the coal tit.
