This tawny owl was one of the most convenient subjects for a sculpture, because, it visited our family home regularly for several months. It would often perch on a nearby outbuilding, making it easy to study from the kitchen window. Also, someone living nearby had rescued a female tawny owl which had been hit by a car. From this bird, I was able to get a lot of close-up details of the complicated arrangement of feathers around the beak area and also of the talons.
