A Bronze Wildlife Sculpture

By Eddie Hallam

Having spent several weeks on St Kilda surrounded by puffins, finding subject matter was not difficult. Sketching flying puffins was another matter. Their wings are adapted more for ‘flying under water’ than through the air and so to increase their efficiency they have to beat their wings very, very quickly. This does not make for good sketches.

Coming in to land provides a good opportunity for sketching, because wing movement is slower and their feet become a prominent feature. Puffins flying skills are very good but their landing techniques leave a lot to be desired. Often they will land in a tumbling ball of legs and feathers before coming to an undignified stop.

As all of our sculptures are made to order, delivery may take up to 10 weeks.
